WHERE TO, MALAYSIA?

Background

I was privately interviewed by Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu on why should I be given the chance to write his biography. I told him that there needs to be a lesson learnt by those in the management and leadership fields, especially on the sacrifices he had to make when his Opposition political party Gerakan, won the General Election and later he had to “betray” his voters by joining the Ruling party of that time.

Differences in Malaysia - the 1960s vs. 2020s

Our 1960s were filled with racial riots, people killed and injured. This fear filled our hearts in the days of BERSIH rallies which sought to reform the electoral system in Malaysia to improve its democracy by ensuring free, clean and fair elections. The political parties involved include PKR, DAP and PAS, besides the NGOs and opposing BERSIH then was Barisan Nasional led by UMNO. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bersih

By 2020s, PKR, DAP and allies better known as Pakatan Harapan (PH) had accepted Barisan National (comprising of UMNO and allies) into the folds to form a unity Government at Parliamentary level (this union is named, PH+BN). A pro-Malay group, Bersatu originally under Tun Dr. Mahathir conveniently married with the PAS, a staunch Muslim party (collectively known as Perikatan Nasional or PN).

As of Sunday 13 December 2023, the results from six states election had shown that PN had gained additional 61 state seats or 60% of the contested seats in total.

The voice of people has spoken

I would categorically say all Malaysians, now know how to use their voting power to determine their future. It is not because they are Muslims, Christians, Malays, Chinese or other races but because socially including religious, economically, and politically – they want to be taken care of. When you ask the voters one-by-one, are they perfectly happy with their choices, they are.

Foreign Direct Investments, do not create happiness. It is a short-lived affair. Same with dishing out hundreds and thousands ringgits to elevate short-term financing. The old structure where money are being distributed, has to be completely torn up. Everyone knows which state or federal agencies to turn to for money. But does that money generate enough thanks?

The only thing that I am glad is that I belong to groups that openly discuss pros and cons of the parties involved, with some constructive criticism. So, I hope someone is listening.
