AI and Modern Slavery

I am in support of AI. Not because I am providing RAG AI, agentic AI, and generative AI services but because it is the way forward. Sooner or later, AI will fall upon us. Same as working in a hybrid environment and ordering things from home when COVID-19 happened.

Nevertheless, we have to be very careful, for if unplanned, the majority of us will be made human slaves, servants, and maids to a whole new order of humans who know how to use AI very well.

Imagine every company in every industry starts to shed 5% to 10% of its staff because they are useless in an AI world. These people are untrainable or refused AI training. They are less imaginative and creative compared to tech-savvy partners. The only position of negotiation is their existing "good" health. They will work to death or old age.

With inflation and scammers abound, the value of money decreases. As such, the value for the present time becomes very important. Get the highest gross amount for oneself when possible.

The Government has to impose a higher minimum salary hike from RM 1,700 per month to a minimum of RM 4,000 per month for fresh staff. At the same time, they have to arm those who are about to leave the labour force and those who have left, with the option to take up important skills - whether AI or to do with the hands and minds - such as traditional batik-making.

Industries that value-add, whether renewable energy, EV car making, steel making, education, have to help invest in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) that fosters critical thinking and TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) to prepare skilled employment and entrepreneurship.

What is certain?

1. People losing jobs;

2. Consumer price to increase;

3. Those with money offers below the new minimum wages - it's either take it or leave it. Hence, modern AI slavery.

What can be done to avert this situation?

1. Increase minimum wages;

2. Identify and provide relatable education;

3,. Create stronger unions and as Government to negotiate on behalf of it.

As it is, there will always be ups and downs in life. One day, a business owner can also be a business servant.
